Alan Pardew managed the Saints captain for just over a year between July 2009 and August 2010 and looks set to offer £5 million for the player.
However, having left Saints under a cloud, Pardew made public his disagreements with Chairman Nicola Cortese, and this could go against the Newcastle manager.
There is no love lost between the two, and just as Liverpool would rather NOT sell Andy Carroll back to Newcastle ... Southampton would be reluctant to sell Lallana to Pardew.
Everton are believed to be ready to equal Newcastle's bid in January, and the Saints skipper is a big fan of David Moyes, saying last month: "Everton are one of the few Premiership clubs I's pay to watch."
