West Ham United are reportedly keen on Newcastle United's Jamaal Lascelles. But with their top flight status is far from assured this season, with just two points separating them from 18th placed Southampton, their "interest" maybe as far as it goes.
One particular area of concern for the Hammers will be their central defensive department, and according to the Sun, they are targeting a £15 million summer swoop for Newcastle ace Lascelles.
Lascelles moved to St James' Park from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2014, before being immediately loaned back to the east Midlands outfit.
He has performed consistently ever since then, but would he see West Ham as a step up from Newcastle?
I'm sure Lascelles has ambition, but with Liverpool and Chelsea showing interest as well, I think an offer from the Hammers would get a negative reply.
Although London reporters are already arguing that Lascelles is no better than the likes of Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna, Geordie reporters could argue West Ham would be a step down.
