The duo are both full internationals and it had been expected that they would push for places in the first team this season, but now it seems they are not in Sir Bobby’s immediate plans.
The Evening Chronicle claimed that Hibs were interested in taking Caldwell for a second loan spell, while Motherwell and Livingston are said to be interested in Kerr.
The story was effectively confirmed when Aberdeen manager Steve Paterson admitted that he’d turned down the opportunity to sign Kerr.
"Brian was on a list of potential candidates and his name had been faxed to us," said the Dons boss.
"His name has been discussed by the coaching staff but if you have a good player like that but have no chance of getting him on a permanent deal, then it is just a quick fix."
(We’re not signing you because you’re too good must be one of the greatest excuses in football history).
It is also rumoured that a Lancashire based first division club are keen on taking Caldwell on loan for the season.
