The first part of the deal will apparently see Patrick Kluivert arriving for £1.2million in January, with veteran midfielder Luis Enrique following in the summer when his contract ends.
It seems that however much Kluivert denies that he will sign for United the rumour just won’t go away, but I’m not totally convinced that his arrival would be a positive move.
There is no question that the Dutchman is a supremely talented footballer, who is at his best in big games, but his attitude seems to be a major problem and his recent behaviour has impressed no-one.
There are very few managers as good as Sir Bobby at coaxing consistent performances from temperamental stars, but does he really need the hassle?
As for Luis Enrique, he’s obviously another talented player but his acquisition would go against the club’s very sensible policy of not signing players who cannot be sold on for a decent fee.
