The tough-tackling right-back is out of contract in the summer and although he has been offered a new deal nothing has been signed yet, prompting speculation that the club will choose to cash in by selling him in January.
Griffin’s recent Ricky Hatton impression in the reserves has done little to improve his situation at St James’ Park, with Aaron Hughes now seemingly established as first choice on the right side of defence.
Any move for Griffin may though depend on whether or not Sir Bobby manages to sign a replacement during the January transfer window, with number one target Stephen Carr set to be offered a new contract by Spurs.
