The Hammers are keen to offload the Frenchman following their relegation from the Premiership and according to the South Shields Gazette told Newcastle that the player could move to St James’ Park for £4million plus Carl Cort.
Unsurprisingly the offer was swiftly rejected, with a new striker hardly a priority for Sir Bobby.
This would seem to be a lucky escape as although Kanoute is a talented player he failed to show the necessary commitment at Upton Park last season and (unsubstantiated) rumours circulated that his injury problems were largely imaginary. A scoring record of 29 goals from 84 Premiership games is a good return for a second striker, but the former Lyon man is not a player who would markedly improve our squad.
