AC Milan’s decision to release Rivaldo has started a rumour frenzy about which English club he’ll be joining - although presumably the German press are busy debating which Bundesliga club he’ll be signing for and the French press……….
Freddy Shepherd’s assertion two years ago that he’d love to sign the Brazilian has us pegged as favourites along side Chelsea and Middlesbrough.
The midfielder is alleged to have said: "I know that Middlesbrough have made contact, and that my team-mate Juninho is there - but I'd need to understand far more about the club and its situation before moving because of that.
"And at Newcastle of course I know there is also interest, but I know that Sir Bobby Robson could be having trouble so I'll wait on that."
Whether or not forking out a fortune for a player who appears to have his best years behind him and has left his last two clubs after falling out with the managers would be a good move is a question journalists don’t appear to be considering in too much depth though.
It’s been a couple of weeks since we’ve had a Kluivert rumour, so ITV Sport decided to make a claim that we attempted to sign him just before the closure of the transfer window.
Apparently Sir Bobby was told the Dutchman wasn’t for sale but that he may be sold in January.
